31 May TCi Director Frank D’hondt invited as expert at the High-Level International Forum on Sustainable Urban Development in Chengdu, China, 1-3 August 2018
Over the past four decades, China has witnessed the world’s largest urbanization process, unprecedented in terms of combining scale and speed. This went along with fast domestic economic growth and brought increased social prosperity, and global development. Challenges have become clear as well, especially in terms of environmental issues and sustainability at large.
This Forum will focus on early achievements and urgent actions towards Urban Transformation and Development. The Government of China set out a range of new priorities at its recent 19th National CPC Meeting. Moreover, in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, President Xi Jinping spelled out that China will focus on a new-type international cooperation and will share urbanization experience with other countries.
Under the guidance of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, this Forum is convened by CCUD and UN-Habitat and generously hosted by Chengdu Municipal People’s Government. Further support will be provided by the UN in China and Xinhua News Agency. High-level policy makers, urban managers, experts, company leaders and media elites at home and abroad are being invited.
At the occasion of the Forum, the first China International Expo on Sustainable Cities will also be organized. It aims to showcase the achievements of implementing the SDGs, share international best practices, technologies and concepts. The Exhibition will function as a communication platform for governments, cities, NGOs, Institutes and private sector companies.
