TCi Director Frank D’hondt invited as expert at the Global Symposium on Urban and Territorial Planning in Fukuoka, Japan, 31 July 2018

This inaugural event for the International Guidelines on Urban and Territorial Planning (IG-UTP) of UN-Habitat will hold the Guidelines as the main topic, serving as a next step in consolidating the progress made on their implementation since their release in 2015. Moreover, the Symposium will be a platform to foster evidence-based discussion and to facilitate peer-to-peer learning on planning principles and practices by bringing together representatives of the four stakeholder groups of the IG-UTP: national governments, local authorities, planning professionals and their associations, and civil society and its organizations.

At the Symposium the Handbook to apply the IG-UTP will be launched and presented. This compact handbook volume 1 is derived from the larger Draft Handbook that was authored by TCi Director Frank D’hondt in 2016/17.

Frank D’hondt will present a Think Piece titled ‘Towards Dual Territorial Planning Systems for Urbanized and Non-urbanized Territories’. In short the Think Piece makes a proposition to develop dual planning systems for respectively the urbanized territories and for the non-urbanized natural and wildlife areas – with an equal share following E.O. Wilson’s Half-Earth proposal.
