16 Apr Castries Vision 2030 endorsed
The Government of Saint Lucia has endorsed the Castries Vision 2030 for further public consultation and as compass for current and future urban development investments. TCi Director Frank D’hondt was the lead urban planning expert, together with Washington-based TCi supporter Adriana Navarro, and as part of a UNOPS +Ministry Team to draft the Vision in a record time of 4 months and largely ‘in-house’ with support from the Mayor’s Office. Castries is the capital of the central Caribbean island Saint Lucia, threatened by climate change as well by urban sprawl and car-dependency. The Vision presents territorial interventions to address these challenges and redevelop Castries in a more sustainable way, well aligned with the SGDs, the New Urban Agenda and the International Guidelines on Urban and Territorial Development.
TCi Director Frank D’hondt and Planning Team Leader Haward Wells will prepare and present a paper on this inspiring planning practice at the 2019 ISOCARP World Congress in Jakarta.
