The list below contains mainly resource materials that are deemed relevant for both a deeper understanding and the application of  Territorial Planning and Governance. Many of these resource materials have informed the NUA as well the IG-UTP. Some of these materials can be used as practical tools for reviewing and improving essential components of domestic planning approaches and systems. They are marked as such in the table below.

While this list is far from exhaustive – suggestions for extension are most welcome –  most of the selected materials are easy and free accessible on The Internet, providing the weblinks to view or download the materials. Although most of them are only available in English, some have alternative language versions available as well.

Part A of the list only contains materials that are produced or endorsed by UN-Habitat, eventually in partnerships with other organisations. All these materials are publicly available on the Internet and directly accessible on the digital library of UN-Habitat’s corporate website. Part B of the list includes reading materials and tools produced by other lead-organisations. Part B proved more difficult to compile and suggestions for additions are most welcome.

The structure of both parts of the list follows the thematic structure of the UN-Habitat’s digital publication library; only adding the first category of ‘multiple themes’. Since many of these themes are overlapping, some of the materials might be included in more than one category.  For obvious reasons the list mostly contains resource materials and potential tools with a global scope, although some of them have a regional lens.

Except of UN-Habitat’s digital ‘Urban Knowledge’ centre and the resource sections of the websites of UN- and other often-mentioned partner organisations such as The World Bank, UCLG or ICLEI, there are many other useful global ‘digital libraries’ including for instance:
